The kitchen is made of hand-hewn walnut logs. The Nathaniel Burrus Historic Home Kentucky is located in Northern Mercer County, west of the Salt River. call for more info – 859-379-5263 more info — The Salt River Valley of the Central Kentucky Bluegrass region geographically is a transitional area where the farmland changes from the gently rolling to sloping. This area is drained by the many creeks and branches that join to form the Salt River. The 1-1/2-story, American bond laid brick house has a chimney inside each of the flank walls and the windows have 12/12 paned sashes. Inside, a traverse hall is flanked by square rooms. The staircase rises against the west wall to a landing that cuts across the transom of the back door. The stairs have an open stringer, and the handrail is supported by colonette newels and square banisters. Doors contain four horizontal panels over a square panel. Trim consists of symmetrical facings with corner blocks. The floor of this room is a step higher than the hall floor by a few inches. A third room is in the ell to the rear of the east room. An enclosed stairway to the chamber above is on the south wall. The floors are of oak, and there are three small chambers on the second floor that have survived relatively intact. The house which originally included a portico of classical design, had its front facade altered by the addition of a modern porch which incorporated the original square-piered columns. It includes a low brick wall with projecting beams. Three dormer windows on the front elevation are modern. The log half of the rear ell had been covered over with siding and has a modern lean-to addition. The domestic area includes a 2-pen frame tenant dwelling with central chimney. Although it has experienced some alterations and additions in recent years, the Nathaniel Burrus House retains the basic form and most of the architectural details which make it an outstanding example of the transitional Federal Greek Revival farmhouse in Central Kentucky. The Nathaniel Burrus Historic Home Kentucky complex is an excellent example of a farm complex associated with the landed gentry of 19th century Mercer County. Nathaniel Burrus built this house in the latter part of his life as an outward manifestation of his economic status in the community. The son of a prominent Mercer family, Nathaniel Burrus was able to amass a considerable fortune through astute management of his extensive land holdings and the produce trade which he conducted on the nearby Kentucky River. – Over 3600 square feet in Main house – 50 acres ± – Living Room with original built-ins and fireplace – Dining Room with built-in cupboards and fireplace – Library with fireplace and “Secret Room” – Spectacular Kitchen with Hand-hewn Walnut Logs – Stainless steel appliances to include an 8 burner Viking Range with two ovens and a Warming shelf – Granite countertops with center island – Original Wood Floors – 5 Bedrooms – 4 Full Bathrooms – Lovely veranda leading to the spacious gardens and Ancillary buildings call for more info – 859-379-5263 #EarlyAmerican #Primitive #ColonialStyle #antiques #OldHouses #Americana #HistoricHome You might want to get you in our Exclusive Mailing List, so we can send you your PERFECT homes and land – and farms the second they are for sale (not when they hit the MLS). go to “Your Perfect Property” at https://bluegrassteam.com/homefinder/ – it only takes a few seconds to fill out your needs and wants and we will start sending you properties that meet YOUR criteria.
